Celebrate International Women’s Day!

March is here at last and Oxfam would love for you to celebrate the 100th International Women’s day with them on the 8th March.

Thousands of people are hosting events for Oxfam on International Women’s Day including Lauren Laverne, Miquita Oliver and Jane Shepherdson.  Others are campaigning to stop 1000 women dying needlessly in childbirth every day.

It’s a sad fact that you’re more likely to be poor if you’re a woman. If fact more than two-thirds of people living in extreme poverty are women and girls. That’s why Oxfam puts women’s rights at the heart of everything they do so that they can give women living in poverty a more positive future. 

We know there are still huge steps to be made. However on International Women’s Day it is worth remembering and celebrating the fantastic work and achievements women have accomplished.

Four year old James’ family were completely devastated when they found out he had cancer.

The diagnosis came after James’ doctor spotted a lump on his stomach. James was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour (kidney cancer) within a week, and began treatment at Great Ormond Street hospital straight away. The intensive chemotherapy made James very ill, and he was in hospital a lot with infections. James then had to go through an operation to remove his kidney.

Leading nature conservation charity, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, can confirm the new female osprey at the Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve, near Dunkeld, has laid her first egg of the season.
