UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights.  We work with families, communities and governments in more than 190 countries, enabling us to reach the most vulnerable children. We believe that every child must have food, clean water, healthcare, education and a safe environment to grow up in.

Our permanent presence worldwide means we are able to respond rapidly wherever and whenever a disaster strikes, providing life-saving assistance and protection for children.  For example, after the devastating earthquake in Indonesia in 2006, UNICEF delivered 300,000 litres of water a day to communities in Java.  By protecting children from the deadly diseases found in dirty water, we helped save countless lives.

UNICEF also helps children access their rights through long-term and cost-effective programmes.  Today, more than 100 million children are missing out on the benefits of primary education.  By rebuilding education systems and recruiting teachers, UNICEF works to make sure all children have the chance to reach their full potential.

UNICEF UK is a registered charity.  Despite being part of the United Nations, UNICEF receives no funding from the UN budget.  We are funded entirely by voluntary contributions and are only able to carry out our vital work thanks to the contributions of our supporters.
