Save the Children aid workers in Pakistan have been carrying stranded women on the verge of giving birth through waist-high water to the nearest clinic, two hours away.
Seven women have so far given birth safely after being carried on wooden beds, by our staff in remote and flood-sticken Batagram, to our health clinics in the Allai valley. We’ve been running six mobile health clinics here since the beginning of the flood crisis, treating 2,845 patients so far.
A team of our staff also walked for two days to reach another isolated area, Kalam, where families were urgently in need of aid. They’re beginning to distribute food to around 48,000 people.
Mohammad Qazilbash, our Country Director in Pakistan, says “Save the Children is distributing life-saving relief to isolated and cut off communities in all parts of Pakistan. Our colleagues have trekked over 50km to reach the most inaccessible communities.”
As the number of people affected by these massive floods exceeds 4 million, we’re also:
- providing shelter and household essentials like cooking equipment and soap to some of the worst-affected families
- taking medical help by boat to 12,000 stranded people in difficult to reach areas of Rajanpur
- distributing 2,000 tents, provided by the Department for International Development.
To help flood-hit families in Pakistan, donate now from your pay to help us reach more children with vital aid.
