Our Geared for Giving Campaign has reached the One Million Mark!

24 August 2010

Geared-for-Giving-Duncan-BannatyneWe are thrilled that the Geared for Giving Campaign that Workplace Giving UK has funded for the past two years has reached the 1 million mark.

“We’ve done it! The Geared for Giving Campaign has reached its target of making Workplace Giving available to a million more employees and has already raised more than £1.2 million for hundreds of charities with over £8 million more pledged “, reports a delighted Duncan Bannatyne.

He and the then MP Anne Snelgrove launched the Campaign in 2008. Since then they have spread the Workplace Giving message to companies across the country.  Household names at the forefront of the Campaign include Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank, Barclays, Arcadia, Boots, ASOS.com, H & M, London Stock Exchange and the Financial Services Authority.

Charities estimate they lose around £900 million each year through inefficient giving and at last, with so many Chief Executives of top companies supporting the Scheme, the message is starting to get through that Workplace Giving is the easiest and most efficient way to give.

Sir Nicholas Young is Chief Executive of the British Red Cross: “This year alone nearly £500,000 will be donated to the British Red Cross by the kind people who give to us, month in month out, directly from their salaries. Every penny and every pound that is donated to the British Red Cross through Workplace Giving makes a difference. We can’t do that without companies large and small getting behind the ‘Geared for Giving’ Campaign.”

RNIB’s Paul Amadi adds: “An increase in awareness and take up of tax efficient giving means that RNIB can extend its reach to ensure that more blind and partially sighted people get the practical and emotional support they need. Thank you.”

Duncan Bannatyne believed that: ‘As an employer, you shouldn’t be asking yourself, why would I do this? You should be asking, why wouldn’t I? The Campaign has reached a million more, but why stop there?  There are still nine million employees without access to the scheme so let’s extend the Campaign and double the original target. With your help, we can make it two million.”

So will you join the other enlightened employers and help us take scheme out to a million more employees?
