RSPCA officers overcame the white water rapids of a Welsh beauty spot to rescue a border collie dog.
The dog named Dylan tumbled into the torrent during a walk with his owners on 28 September. He slipped on the wet rocks at Miners Bridge and fell into the rapidly moving waters of the River Llugwy. After disappearing under the fast flowing water, Dylan reappeared several feet downstream and eventually managed to scramble onto a narrow rocky ledge on the north side of the river, where he remained, shivering but calm, while the RSPCA was contacted.
RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh abseiled down the rock face to rescue Dylan, ably assisted by his colleague Ann Lloyd Williams who supervised the operation. RSPCA officer Mark Roberts stayed in the water to ensure Dylan’s safety had he chosen to leap into the water, with fellow officer Will Galvin keeping firm reign on the rope line.
Dylan’s owner Wendy Yoderon said: We will be eternally grateful to the absolutely fantastic RSPCA rescuers for the time, skill and professionalism they demonstrated in saving Dylan, and also in saving our vacation in the beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed. Thank you!!”
RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh said: “This was team work at its best and I’d like to pay tribute to my colleagues who showed great professionalism and courage. Conditions were very challenging but we were able to rescue Dylan and return him to his owner.”
