When we first approached the London Borough of Islington in August 2006, they didn’t have a scheme in place.  Three years on and they are now running the most successful scheme of all the London boroughs, with an uptake of 7.3% and raising an incredible £44,000 per annum for over 73 local and national charities. Now that’s impressive!

So how did they do it?  When we advised Islington Council on how to promote the scheme, they were particularly pro-active at taking our advice onboard.  Like most employers we start to work with, they were nervous about desk to desk promotions, however we piloted this at the Municipal building and employee feedback was positive.  A month later promotions of the scheme were rolled out to all departments, details were also put on the intranet, in the staff magazine, IC News and we also had a stall at the annual staff fair.

The desk to desk promotion of the scheme with employees and ongoing communication are the key to their success!

This success was recognised in October 2009, when the London Borough of Islington were rewarded for their efforts by winning the first ‘Best Public Sector’ Award at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards

“We are tremendously proud of the community spirit of our employees. We could not have achieved this without the fantastic partnership we have with Workplace Giving UK”
