The Princess Royal Trust for Carers was formed in 1991 on the initiative of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in recognition of the contribution made by carers and their need for support.

The Trust is the largest provider of comprehensive services to carers across the UK. Through its unique network of 144 independently managed Carers’ Centres, 85 young carers’ projects and interactive websites it currently supports around 400,000 carers, including 25,000 young carers.

Few of us are prepared for a sudden and demanding caring role, but sadly all of us are likely to be touched by this issue at some point in our lives;

  • There are an estimated six million carers in the UK today, making one in ten of us a carer
  • One in five carers spend more than 50 hours a week in their caring role
  • Carers range from 5 to 95 years old
  • 80% of carers said it had an adverse impact on their own health
  • It’s estimated that carers save the economy £87 billion in services
  • The government give carers allowance of £53.10 per week – the lowest benefit available
  • The 2001 National Census found 175,000 carers under the age of 18 – recent polls suggest this figure is much higher

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers relies entirely on the generosity of individual donations to help continue their work.

Without your help thousands of carers face a life of isolation that can be mentally, physically and financially draining.

Your donation through Workplace Giving can help to free carers from coping alone; giving them the practical, financial and emotional support that will make their lives that little bit easier.
