Livability is a new charity created by the merger of two well-respected charities: John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society. We are now one of the UK’s largest disability charities, working with over 8,000 disabled children and adults throughout the UK.

Livability is the only charity in the UK with the range of services across such a wide age group from school children through to disabled people in our residential centres. The charity provides services in three core areas:-

Support and choices for disabled adults: Our range of residential care and supported living centres as well as lifestyle choices community outreach work and specialist brain injury rehabilitation unit all aim to maximise independence for adults with learning difficulties and physical impairments.

Education: Our school and colleges provide specialist provision for children and young people with complex care and learning needs.

Community Mission: We support congregations and Christian groups in urban communities to work with local people to address local needs.

The core value underlying all Livability’s services is to give people with disabilities the freedom to run their own lives as they want.  We are absolutely committed to providing all disabled children, young people and adults with the same opportunities as those enjoyed by the rest of the population.
