Christie’s

The Christie Charity is the second largest hospital charity in the country and the most successful charity in the North West.

Each year we raise £13m to fund cancer research and patient services that fall outside the remit of NHS funding. The Charity is currently contributing to the building of our new £35 million Patient Treatment Centre, which will include the largest phase I clinical trials unit in the world. It is also helping to fund two new Christie radiotherapy centres in Oldham and Salford, which will bring treatment closer to patients homes.

The additional services that the charity raises for the Christie’s 40,000 patients a year help them to take charge charge of their illness and work towards their recovery. Such services include complementary therapies, benefits advice and counselling as well as creative projects such as art and music therapy. Recently, three teenage girls at our Young Oncology Unit worked with a musician to create a song that expressed their experience of being diagnosed with cancer.
