There are an estimated 7 million carers in the UK. Over 900,000 carers provide over 50 hours of care a week. Carers are people that look after family, including parents bringing up a disabled child, partners or friends who, because of disability, illness or frailty cannot manage without help. Carers United are a consortium of the following charities…
Carers UK – committed to winning a better deal for all carers through their helpline and a nationwide network of self-help branches
Contact a Family – discovering your child has a special need is probably one of the most devastating and isolating experiences that any parent will live through. Contact a Family provides support and advice to parents and can put families in touch with each other.
Crossroads Caring for Carers – Run over 200 schemes to provide paid, fully trained Care Workers, to go in to the home and take over the caring tasks and enabling the carer to take an essential break from their responsibilities.
Princess Royal Trust for Carers – Aiming to make it easier for carers to cope by providing information, support and practical help to nearly 1000,000 carers each year.
Each charity is committed to supporting people who care for others by providing helplines, advocacy, short term breaks, information, advice and practical help.
