British Heart Foundation
Part of Medical
As the nation’s heart charity the British Heart Foundation is totally committed to saving lives through pioneering research, caring for patients and their families, campaigning for change and providing vital information to help people care for their own heart health.
Our vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease. Heart disease is the UK’s biggest killer and 2.5million people are living with it. The chances are it has already affected you, your family, or your friends. Far too many people die prematurely, and for those who survive, life can be frightening and hard. This charity is totally committed to preventing heart disease devastasting people’s lives.
Meet Jacob, pictured below. Jacob is one of the 4,600 children born each year with a congenital heart defect. He was born with pulmonary atresia where no pulmonary valve exists and a single working ventricle. Jacob had to undergo eight operations to try and repair his heart. Jacob and his family were supported by Katy Stimson, a BHF Paediatric Cardiac Liaison Nurse and here’s what Jacob’s mum Lisa had to say:
‘‘Katy Stimson and the other nurses fill me with confidence and are always just at the end of the phone. They have known Jacob since he was born and understand him and his condition. ’’
The Carr family have experienced first hand the difference the BHF has made in the field of research into childhood congenital heart defects.
Your support will help the BHF to make a very real difference to heart patients all over the UK like Jacob.
Food4Thought. Childhood obesity is a ‘ticking timebomb’ issue in the UK, view our video below about our Food4Thought campaign, now in its fifth year, and it aims to tackle the threat head on.
