Bowel Cancer UK is dedicated to saving lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice.  Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer of men and women in the UK – over 37,500 people are diagnosed and just over 16,000 die of the disease each year; one person every 30 minutes. However, if diagnosed at the earliest stage, the disease is very treatable with a survival rate of more than 80% over five years.

We run the UK’s leading Bowel Cancer Advisory Service. Open Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm, the freephone telephone service is staffed by specialist nurses who can also respond to enquiries by email. Callers can talk in confidence to our colorectal, stoma care and oncology nurses about all aspects of bowel cancer and bowel health. Our nurses offer advice on treatment options, symptoms or information on reducing the risk of bowel cancer.

Another vital aspect of our work is to raise awareness and educate the public about bowel cancer and its symptoms. We give regular talks to large groups of people including community groups and workplaces.

We provide training to non specialist healthcare professionals and disseminate information to them, in order to bring public and voluntary organisations together. This shared learning and experience we believe will ultimately save lives from bowel cancer.
