Africa Now is a small, award winning international development charity who believes markets offer a sustainable route out of poverty for rural Africans. We support farmers to increase their income by raising the value of their produce and directly linking them to buyers who will pay a fair price.

Africa Now supports farmers to diversify their crops and secure new income generating opportunities.  We link farmers to Village Banks for affordable loans to invest in small businesses and for a secure place to save a portion of their earnings, and support co-operatives groups to lobby on issues affecting their trade.  Our Ethical Business Services team conducts ethical audits for UK and US companies sourcing from across Africa, ensuring workers have fair working conditions, contracts and salaries.

Meet… Eunice Okeld.  Eunice is phenomenal.  At 40 she lost her husband to AIDS, leaving her struggling to look after their six children and four grandchildren.  She was determined to turn her life around and in 2005 joined Africa Now’s revolving goat loan scheme.  The scheme works by passing on the first born kid to other farmers in the community.  From selling goat milk her income rose from £13 a month to £140.  Eunice’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop.  She started selling pineapples, bananas and chillies, and by saving money in a local Village Bank she grew her farm from 1 goat to 22 goats, 14 chickens and 2 cows!

Eunice is an inspiration.  Her experience shows how small beginnings grow to make a big difference!
