Action for Children

Wake up to neglect!  Action for Children has launched an urgent appeal to tackle neglect. We want to make the UK Wake up to neglect and raise £17million to help neglected children.  Why neglect?  Serious neglect kills – and, shockingly, studies suggest that up to 10% of children in the UK experience neglect.

Neglect is the biggest reason a child needs a protection plan – more so than both physical and sexual abuse. It’s a complicated problem that’s often hard to spot. It could be a child who is unloved, goes to bed hungry night after night, or who wears dirty clothes to school each day – but the effects of neglect can be devastating.

What are we doing?  Because neglect is complex, tackling it can be tough – there are no quick fixes. But, with your help, we can be there for neglected children and young people for as long as it takes. For example, we will: reach out to children at risk of neglect, using mobile outreach services to help those most in need, develop targeted, national programmes to tackle specific aspects of neglect, including nutrition and parenting classes and actively campaign so children’s voices are heard
